RandomStorm Appoints National Cyber Security Competition Winner

Security management and compliance specialist, RandomStorm, has appointed Channon Powell as a security engineer. Powell recently won the final online round of the Cyber Security Challenge UK, a national competition organised by the Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC), Qinetic, PwC, BT, Sophos, Cassidian, BT, HP Labs and GCHQ. The competition is based on a number of streams and online games, testing candidates’ skills in secure network design, forensics and investigation and discovery of malware infections. It is designed to identify and attract the most talented people to work in the cyber security profession.

Powell (Twitter @tamonten) is a Microsoft specialist and the latest appointment to RandomStorm’s rapidly growing team of penetration testers and security auditors, who specialise in identifying vulnerabilities in Web applications, physical security systems and networked devices.

The company recently recruited Avram Marius Gabriel (Twitter @securityshell), an internationally acclaimed Web application tester, who is listed in the Google, Microsoft, Facebook and Twitter halls of fame for identifying security flaws in commonly used applications. Another member of the team, senior security engineer, Robin Wood (Twitter @digininja), recently gained the CREST Certified Application Tester qualification, recognised as being the “gold standard” of application security testing. Using the team’s expert skills, RandomStorm highlights where organisations can tighten up systems, applications and processes, in compliance with industry guidelines and data protection regulations and in response to new cyber threats and social engineering tactics.
